About two and a half months ago, I had my gallbladder removed. The surgeon said it was packed and that he had to take the stones out one-by-one until the gallbladder was small enough to make it through the incision.
I went into surgery at 12:30pm. I woke up in recovery at 4:30pm. I was out of the hospital by 5:30pm. So far so good, right? Recovery from the surgery was very smooth. I didn’t even need any painkillers, though they were prescribed.
I felt pretty proud of myself. And I wondered if other people with schizophrenia have a similar high threshold for pain.
Starting last Monday one my molars, one that has had a cavity for some time (over a year) started flaring up. And boy did it flare. I’ve been in pain ever since. I thought I could “tough it out”.
Yesterday, I begged the nurse (I’m staying in a nursing facility for MIs by the way) to let me go to the hospital. Yes, it was that bad. I ended up getting a stronger, non-narcotic pain reliever. It works okay. But just okay.
The reality is that I am doubting the idea that I have a high tolerance for pain.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
