I see beneath a darkened cloud
And seeing not what I should see
I see a rain and stormy wind
A view of what shouldn’t be
The rain feels cold against my skin
The wind harsh upon my soul
I coat with fear, disgust and rage
Repelling the drops of old
The clouds, they hover over my head
Threatening to cut my face
Their thunder and lightning strike through me
A truth that has no grace
But I with wings fight through the clouds
To get a better look
At the bright sun over a blackened rim
Several beats is all it took
Still I see the storm below
But now I see much more
I see a haven I could not see
A few short moments before
Taking flight above the clouds
Not losing sight of the rain
I look above to see the shine
That gives me hope within my pain
I cannot fathom what the future brings
Predestined or made by will
But I do know that my soul will stay—
Above the storm below me— still
